Pie Hole - Meridian Grand RE-Opening is a Smash Hit

MayorTammy, from the paintings by local artists on the walls; to 300 different styles of pizza; to the news about upcoming murals and graffiti; to a delicious slice of famous potato bacon (gotta love the house roasted peppers on basal sauce); to my daughter playing Primal Rage (no animals were harmed in any way during the making of that video game)-- there is plenty to blog about here at the grand RE-opening of Piehole - Meridian. And it's open until 3 a.m. tonight. So come on down! ... I'm so glad that Rhea Allen and Drew Allen of Peppershock Media Productions invited me to this.

Such were the words of my Facebook post on the page of Meridian Mayor Tammy DeWeerd.

I already knew that the pizza was good. After all, who in the Treasure Valley has not heard of the famous Pie Hole - Meridian?

My daughter and I arrived around 7:30 p.m. and the success of their grand opening became clear before we even parked. There were so many cars in the area, we could barely find a space!

We had a great time and were treated with great hospitality by the owner, Eric Mott and his wife Tobi.

My first taste came from one of the custom daily creations, meatball onions and mushrooms on a Ranch dressing base. This recipe feels substantial but doesn't overfill you.  The spot serves four regular pizzas every day -- cheese, pepperoni, basal with roasted red pepper, and their famous potato bacon (house roasted peppers on basal sauce).

Further, there are another four different pies every day (they have a secret little bible of recipes). Altogether, they can count over 300 unique pizzas.

The restaurant serves 20 different bottles of beer as well as canned beers. And the owners have announced that they signed up with the state and are now licensed to provide wine by the glass.

And the pace is very accessible. Located conveniently in the middle of downtown Meridian, I had been a little worried about getting their late.  But I had no need to worry, on Fridays and Saturdays they are open until 3 a.m. Hours for the rest of the week are 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. On Sundays they serve from noon to 8.

The Pie Hole-Meridian is a family friendly place.

While watching my daughter play video games with other children, I also got a chance to speak with the owner's brother, Keith Mott. He told me about how they've done a variety of creative things for birthday parties. For kid's celebrations, they are pretty much wide open. At the Pie Hoile Meridian, they have held parties where the children cook  their own mini pizzas.

"Just let us know what you want to do, and we'll make the birthday party fun," Keith said.

Other news: There is a rooftop patio deck coming this summer. With the transition to a new building, many have asked about the Pie Hole - Meridian's famous artwork.  Loyal Pie Holers will be happy to know that paintings from local artists adorn the ledge on top of the wall, featuring a wide variety of styles.

And they will have graffitti again!.

Finally, Frank Sinatra is going to be painted on on men's room door; and a Marilyn Monroe portrait will grace the women's room door.

My family will be frequenting the Pie Hole - Meridian, for a taste of culture, community and terrific pizza just west of Boise.
