I purchased the Go Pro HD Hero 2 Outdoor Edition Professional Camera at Sportman’s Warehouse for $249.97. I wanted my husband to have a waterproof camera that he could mount to his head or chest for his duck hunting adventures. This strap down feature is important because while duck hunting you usually have your duck calls in one hand and your gun in the other so you don’t have another set of hands for a camera. I thought the Go Pro would be perfect sense he treads through very wet terrain while duck hunting. This way, if he dropped the camera it wouldn’t be ruined.

The camera was advertised in the Sportman’s Warehouse weekly ad. I have never seen this camera advertised on television but my nephews have one and wear it for all of their outdoor adventures. They have strapped the camera onto their heads and chests and jumped off the edge of cliffs into deep rivers, jumped into pools and even dived in the ocean with the Go Pro and have never lost or harmed the camera. I figured it would be a great durable camera for my husband and it’s seems easy to operate as well. He is technically challenged so the less buttons to push the better! The camera takes video with sound and pictures (up to 10 pictures within 1 second) but only has two buttons for operation on it. There is a menu viewing screen so you can use those two buttons to maneuver and change the camera’s settings. The camera package comes with a helmet strap, head strap, waterproof housing, usb cable, rechargeable battery and mounting hardware. The chest strap is sold separately.

Picture & Video quality is good. You can set a self timer and you can also set a time lapse for: 05,1,2,5,10, 30 or 60 seconds. It has the capability of shooting a single photo, photo burst (10 photos in 1 second) or shoot video. There are different resolutions for the video as well, HD 1080p, 960p or 720p and all have 170 degree full field of view. There are options to have a lesser field of view. The Go Pro does not have a zoom because it is made for an active person to capture your adventures while you move. I would like to test this camera while zip lining to see what shows up.

I read the manual and figured out how to put the camera safely into the waterproof case and tested the camera on both the video and picture settings. The only thing I don’t like about the Go Pro I purchased is there is no viewing screen on the camera. You have to wait until you get home or to a computer to view what you have filmed or shot. Most technology today has instant gratification viewing and that’s what I miss with this camera.
