But to the couple’s surprise, the windows were drafty right from the start. And Chaumont, New York can get cold, sometimes minus 30 degrees Fahrenheit. Scott asked the company for new seals and received several pieces made of vinyl, weatherstripping and felt, but none of it worked to eliminate the drafts.
As a home performance contractor, Scott had done a super job of insulating the house but the faulty new windows stumped him. He wasn’t about to replace them since they were brand new, so he bought insulating blinds as a stop gap measure until he could figure out a solution. He and his wife were cold that first winter in their new house and couldn’t even watch television in the main living room.

“Heck, you would expect 20 years out of a new window,” said Scott. “You expect they would last longer. They’re nice windows as far as looks go, but functional? No.”
He found Indow inserts, which immediately solved the problem. His wife, who is sensitive to drafts, told him, “There’s a huge difference in here.” Scott used his thermal imaging gun to see the difference he and his wife could both feel. It showed the window with an Indow insert was 23 degrees warmer than the one without. The inserts took care of the condensation problem on the windows and the boiler for the heater doesn’t have to run as much to heat the home. “The changes in the home were just short of amazing,” said Scott. He liked them so much he is now an Indow dealer helping to make others more comfortable around the region.
